About VinUnwrap

VinUnwrap is a free VIN decoding tool. Paste any 17-character VIN and get the factory basics — make, model, year, engine, assembly plant — straight from the public NHTSA vehicle database, with no login, no CAPTCHA and no usage limit.

The site exists because most VIN tools gate the basics behind signups, fake "daily limits" or upsell funnels. Decoding factory data was always free at the source; we just remove the friction and add honest guidance about what a decode can't tell you.

Who runs it

VinUnwrap is built and maintained by Nan Liang, an independent developer. Nan Liang also writes at javaeye.dev, where there is a profile and other projects. Questions and corrections: support@vinunwrap.com.

Data & honesty notes

Decode results come from NHTSA's public vPIC database and reflect factory-declared data. A single source is never the whole story — cross-check the window sticker and inspect the car before buying. We don't sell history reports and we don't mark up anyone else's.
